Lenario Butler
Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
After years of running the streets and living a reckless and dangerous lifestyle, Lenario made the crucial decision to change his life. It was time to do something different and time to start thinking about his future. He didn’t want to get just any job but he wanted to do something that would make a difference, something meaningful and helpful. Feeling like most of his young adult life contributed to the problems in his community he wanted to change his ways and become a part of the solution for the community.
So he decided to study psychology at South University in Tampa and graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in 2016. In September of 2020 Lenario graduated with his Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from National Louis University in Tampa, Florida. Lenario’s life experiences make him relatable to people from various cultures and backgrounds. His authenticity and genuineness make it easy for him to connect with people.
Lenario is passionate about working with teens, young adults, as well as current and former athletes. Although he enjoys working with some of everyone, his speciality is the mental health of student athletes, professional athletes, and high performers. There is no problem that is too serious or too minor for Lenario to help his clients work through. Lenario understands that genetics, past experiences, and personal belief systems strongly influence the way we are today. Using a holistic approach, Lenario is well prepared to work on a variety of issues. His approach to therapy is based in cognitive-behavioral therapy, rational-emotive behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy, and performance psychology.
Lenario is a husband and a father of five ages 16, 14, 10, 6, and 4. Growing up in the Tampa area, sports was everything. He played baseball, basketball, football, and ran track. Football has been his favorite sport to watch, play, and study so becoming a youth football coach and a strength and conditioning coach has been one way to give back to the community. He has been coaching with the same youth organization for 8 years. Lenario is also a high school mental health counselor at a charter school here in Tampa. He works with high schoolers who have emotional and/or behavioral issues. Lenario has just completed the requirements of being a registered mental health counseling intern and is set to take his exam for licensure this spring.
